Knoxville (WVLT) Police now have a suspect in custody for the shooting incident in Western Heights last night.

Authorities say Ieshia Jackson, 21, was shot in the neck by her mother, Kimberly Matthews in the 1300 block of West Oldham Avenue on Saturday night.

Matthews was arrested shortly after the shooting and is charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

Jackson was initially taken to St. Mary's Hospital by her boyfriend, Greg Smith, right after the shooting.

Shortly after arriving in the emergency room, she was transported to UT Medical Center where is currently in serious condition.

Perhaps in a strange coincidence, the ER at St. Mary's was placed on lockdown shortly after Jackson arrived.

About 45 minutes before she was shot, police were dispatched to St. Mary's after a report of vandalism outside the hospital.

Not long after the vandalism report, police were called out again for a disturbance in the hospital lobby.

Even though the ER was placed under lockdown, hospital officials say everything ran smoothly.

"It's my understanding some people might have been diverted to different ER's during that period, but we continued to operate as normal behind closed doors," said Craig Griffith, a spokesman for Saint Mary's Hospital. "Emergency rooms are high stress situations to begin with so I think it went well."
