Knoxville (WVLT) - A veteran Knox County Sheriff's deputy has been terminated for allegedly stealing county gas.

According to deputies, a citizen called them on Friday and advised they had seen an officer fill his patrol car, and a small orange container, full of gas at a Pilot store.

Deputies say they interviewed Officer Frank Wolfe Monday morning, and placed him on administrative leave without pay pending termination.

Wolfe has been charged with misdemeanor theft.

Deputies say the amount of gas was less than $10.

Wolfe has been with the department since 1993.

"Problems with unethical and inappropriate conduct will be dealt with swiftly," Sheriff Jones said this afternoon in a prepared news release.

I'm not making excuses for what the deputy did, buy my question is why have those in the Mayor's office who stole MUCH more from the county than less than $10.00 not recieved a like punishment? Misdemeanor theft? What do you call thousands of dollars stolen in the Mayor's office? Why are they allowed to pay it back and then transfer or resign or even nothing in the case of some still working there, rather than having charges filed against them? Double standard? I should say!
