New Watts Bar Reactor Plan Approved

Knoxville (WVLT) - The Tennessee Valley Authority will restart on an old project that could generate 2,300 jobs.

Despite, at times, heated debate and strong opposition by environmental groups, the TVA board voted to begin work on Watts Bar Reactor Number 2.

The project was about 60 percent finished when it was stopped 22 years ago.

TVA says the completion would cost about $2.5 billion, would take five years, and would take about 2,300 construction workers to complete.

Another question board members may discuss today, your electric rates.

We'll have more on that, tonight at 5:30
