Knoxville (WVLT) -- Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries is using the tax free weekend to collect school supplies for students who can't afford them.
The program is called Stuff the Bus.
Several local Wal-Mart's are participating by displaying bin's that collect everything from blue jeans to mechanical pencils.
"These are items our children not only need to start school, but to help them get a foot in the right direction," said Mary Beth Ramey of KARM. "It's a step in the right direction in their recovery and their family's in getting back out into the community."
The donations are given to students in every grade between the first grade and high school.
