Powell (WVLT) -- North Knox County is getting some broader options for health care.
This afternoon, Knoxville's Bishop, the most reverend Joseph E. Kurtz joined the Sisters of Mercy and officials from the Saint Mary's Health System to dedicate their newest hospital.
Saint Mary's Medical Center North will open in less than two weeks, with 72 beds, five operating rooms, and about 300 employees.
It will be the first hospital in the north part of the county.
"A former mayor thought that the sisters were crazy to build a hospital so far north," said one of the hospital officials.
"The Saint Mary's family is truly blessed to have this facility here and to have all of you joining us here today," said Mintha Roach, Chairman of the hospitals Board of Directors. "North Knoxville is such an asset to the greater Knoxville community and we want to be apart of your growth and vitality. You've been good to Saint Mary's over the years, and we very much appreciate you welcoming us into this community. We hope to be a great partner going forward."
The $67 million dollar state of the art facility sits on 52 acres of land located in Powell at 7565 Dannaher Way.
