UT Alumnus at Helm of Space Shuttle

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The space shuttle Endeavour is expected to launch tomorrow, and when it does, it will be under the command of a Tennessee graduate.

Astronaut and Navy Commander Scott Kelly will lead the crew of the eleven-day STS-118 mission.

The crew plans to make a critical addition to the International Space Station.

Kelly got his master's degree in aviation systems from the UT Space Institute in Tullahoma in 1996. He flew on a shuttle mission in 1999.

UT Space Institute Chief Operating Officer Don Daniel says Kelly is one of 10 Space Institute graduates who have become astronauts and flown on the space shuttle.
