NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Metro Nashville police say a child has died after coming into contact with a downed power line.
A statement from police says 9-year-old Christopher Ellison was pronounced dead Thursday night shortly after being taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Police said the power line was downed after wind caused a large tree limb to snap, and it landed on the line. They said it was unclear how Ellison came into contact with the wire.
WTVF-TV reported that trees and power lines were down over a wide area of Middle Tennessee as a cold front pushed through bringing severe weather.
Nashville Electric Service reported that up to 14,000 customers lost power, but most service had been restored by early Friday.
