Heat Causes Massive West Knox Blackout

Knox County (WVLT) - Some 15,000-20,000 LCUB customers are without power in West Knox County after the high temperatures forced a transformer to turn off.

A Lenoir City Utilities Board spokesman tells WVLT the transformer in the Northshore Substation is designed to turn off when it reaches a certain temperature. The high demand and the heat of the day caused the transformer to shut down.

LCUB has six crews working

Officials hope to have some of the customers rerouted to a nearby substation within a half hour, but won’t know when the grid will be back to 100%.
