Miners Rescued in Union County

Luttrell, Union County (WVLT) - Two miners are hospitalized and listed in stable condition after falling 40 feet in a limestone mine in Luttrell in Union County.

The Union County Sheriff's Department says the men were in the Luttrell Limestone Mine on Clinch Valley Road Wednesday night when part of the roof collapsed.

The impact knocked them about 40 feet to the ground.

Paramedics took both miners to U.T. Medical Center.

At least one of them has several broken bones.

It is unclear at this time what caused the accident.
