Safety Harnesses Save Union County Miners

Luttrell, Union County (WVLT) - On the heels of that incident, two miners are recovering tonight after being hurt in an accident in Union County.

Safety harnesses may have saved them after working on a roof of a mine near Luttrell.

The contractor, BTE USA confirms that 67-year-old terry Mack Wilson and 45-year-old Richard Blunkall were injured in the accident around 9:30 Wednesday night.

A spokesperson for Oglebay Norton Minerals, the owners of the mine, says both men were thrown from their lift when a large rock fell on it.

They fell about 20 feet, but the harness saved both.

Blunkall's in serious condition, Wilson has been treated and released.
