Immigration Reform: Lighting A T-FIRE

Morristown (WVLT) -- As you may have heard, the Department of Homeland Security plans to raise the fines for companies who hire, or
refuse to fire illegal immigrants.

On Saturday afternoon, one East Tennessee community was looking at what it and the state can do on our own.

Chants professing allegiance to the United States of America rained down as patriotic Morristown residents met at the VFW to discuss the problems their community and the state is having with illegal immigrants.

"It's just about Hispanics," said Morristown resident James Coffey, "They took our county over, they took over certain parks, and just about everything."

"If they're going to come to the United States, they need to push the wagon," said Cathy Hensley, also of Morristown. "They don't need to get on the wagon."

"Immigration and customs enforcement come by every two or three weeks and pick up a group of illegal aliens and haul them out," said Wayne Dollar, a member of Tennesseans for Immigration Reform & Education (T-FIRE).

State Representative Stacey Campfield came to address the immigration issue to about 40 concerned citizens.

"We've got to demagnetize Tennessee," Campfield said. "We need to get away from being a haven for illegal immigrants."

Campfield says too many of our state leaders are in denial that illegal immigration is a problem here...

"A lot of other states are putting in laws," he said. "Georgia just put in laws and all of the people who were tracked down in Georgia, all came to Tennessee because we haven't enforced any laws. We haven't put in place any laws."

But some say the problem is that the laws in place right now aren't being enforced.

"I think the politicians are giving away our country," James said. "The laws that are in effect would work, but they want to create new ones and I don't understand that."

"Every freaking one of you that's in office, we ought to kick you to the curb and let other people in there," Cathy said.

She says while Campfield's doing his part, it seems no other leaders are concerned.

"Everybody's going to have to kick their government out," she said, "the ones that aren't doing what they're supposed to be doing."

"I know it's only going to get worse," Campfield said. "The people are the ones who really have to step up and make a difference."

JD, get out and get a clue! The family and I were at Dolly Wood a week or so ago and there were Mexicans all over the not working. Something struck me kind of funny. If they are only here to work, why are so many of them fat? It sure isn't from working and not having enough to eat! They come here, have their anchor babies and draw on welfare for said children. I've seen this personally and I'm getting real tired of my tax money, state and federal, going to these people while we have Vets that cannot get any help at all. If you want to give them your money, by all means write them a check but I sick of mine paying for them. It's going to stop one way or another! If our elected leaders refuse to take care of it...then some of us will. If your heart starts bleeding, move your butt to Mexico and help them there!

I condemn only the CRIMINALS. ILLEGALs are criminals. There is a legal route to be taken to gain citizenship in the US. When that route is taken, welcome to our country. If that route is not taken, GET OUT.

Shame on you all for condemning people you don't even know. There is a reason that people are here for work. Maybe they don't have work elsewhere. Maybe their family is suffering back home. I can't even imagine why they leave their families back home to work here. It would kill me to leave my wife to work oversees or in Mexico for years at a time. Something is driving them here. It's not just because they love the US. It's because it is a drastic solution to their economic problem. Please don't criticize it make Americans look like big babies that can't have their way. It make everybody look like they're having a temper tantrum at those town meetings. Elect someone that has some leadership qualities, someone that will lead and not do everything that is 'popular' at the time. Before you criticize put to yourself in their shoes. By the way all these laws they are passing are for children. Be adults, follow the underlying principles behind the laws, then we can all get along

The government will not do what it should to keep out illegals. We are the minority now and lose more of our freedom everyday, it's time for us to stand-up and take back our country.

It is good to see citizens banding together for a common good. Illegal aliens are a big problem and Washington doesn't seem to care. If they did, the border fence would be built, more enforcement officers would be sent, more deportations, more employers would be fined [by the laws aready in place] the American people got Washington's attention when they tried to bamboozle an immigration bill through the Senate. So good for the group. Sure hope they inspire others to do the same. Don't stop with Camfield- go on to Washington.
