ADAMS, Tenn. (AP) -- A Tennessee veterinarian says a horse found with a tobacco hatchet stuck into its skull is recovering.
The animal belongs to Sheila Wilborn of Adams, Tennessee about 15 miles west of Clarksville. Wilborn says she can't understand why anyone would do such a thing and feels someone planned the act.
Dr. Dan Hitch says the hatchet was stuck a quarter-inch to a half-inch into the animal's skull, but missed her brain and narrowly avoided some vital nerves.
Hitch calls the act "an awful thing" and says no animal deserves such treatment.
There have been no arrests yet.
