Mechanicsville (WVLT) -- They call their niche of Knoxville the "Gateway to Downtown".

On Saturday, folks hosted Mechanicsville's second annual homecoming.

Neighbors spent the day shuffling among vendors and remembering Mechanicsville's s past.

The yearly get-together gives them a chance to celebrate how unique the culture in their part of town has become.

"A community is not just one or two neighbors," said Charles Wright, president of the Mechanicsville Community Association, "a community is all the people in the community. This is becoming a diversified community. We have Caucasians, Blacks, a few Asians and Hispanics."

The event featured a gospel program, cook-off and door prizes.
