Knoxville (WVLT) - The red carpet rolled out the popcorn buttered and the projectors are ready.
It's the sites and sounds of a movie premier, but right now Downtown Knoxville's premiering a movie theater.
Monday night's the grand opening party of a new Regal Riviera eight on Gay Street.
Some Knoxville movie buffs may have fond memories of the old Riviera Movie Theater that entertained audiences from 1920 to 1988. Now some movie memories are ready to be made.
Regal is throwing a street party to celebrate the opening the new state-of-the-art theater has 8 screens, all digital surround sound and stadium seating. All in all the theater can entertain 2000 movie goers.
If you come to see a movie you get free parking in the State Street Parking Garage. Another perk: this is the only Regal theater in Knoxville that will offer discounted student ticket prices. The theater says it’s all about bringing life to Downtown and to the silver screen.
You can see your first movie downtown Tuesday afternoon. The theater is holding special charity days Tuesday through Sunday. You can get your ticket popcorn and drink all for one dollar each.
The theaters official grand opening is Friday.
