KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Corruption is a problem in Tennessee, according to a list of corrupt states recently released by TheDailyBeast.com, which lists Tennessee as the most corrupt state in the country.
The Web site used the number of public corruption convictions, statewide fraud and embezzlement arrests, and compared various state laws to determine the most corrupt states in the nation.
The Daily Beast cited a former Newport Police captain's conviction on racketeering and drug trafficking charges in explaining why Tennessee had a "foolproof recipe for corruption."
Several of our neighbors join us in the top five.
Virginia, Mississippi, Delaware and North Carolina are all close behind Tennessee as the most corrupt states in The Union.
