GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) -- About 1,000 people are gathering this weekend in Gatlinburg, for a Tea Party convention.
Members say they aren't all Republican, Democrat, or Independent. They just are concerned about the direction of our country.
Members say these tea parties are about networking, education and empowering your voice.
There are seminars on topics like the constitution and taxes.
Anthony Shreeve, an event organizer, said, "What we're trying to do this weekend is to give people an opportunity to get educated and pro-active. The Tea Party movement has been around now for a year."
Sonya Lum, a Smoky Mountain Tea Party Member, said, "We've been watching it for a couple of months now and a guy that works with my husband out at Eddie Miller construction, he is in the Tea Party Coalition down in Etowah, Tennessee, and he was telling us about the Tea Party that went on in Nashville, so when this one come up, we knew we were going to come."
There are 42 Tea Parties, from Memphis to Bristol, with 18,000 members statewide.
