Knoxville (WVLT) -- Police are investigating a deadly wreck that occurred on Pellissippi Parkway late Friday night.
Witnesses say a vehicle was changing lanes near the Northshore Road exit when it hit the median and collided with the front end of another vehicle in the right lane.
The crash threw the driver out of the first car and he was dead when police arrived on the scene.
"At this time it would appear that the driver that is deceased did not have his seat belt on," said Lt. Shawna Williams with the Knoxville Police Department. "We will be investigating further to make sure the apparatus was not malfunctioning."
The two people in the second vehicle weren't hurt.
Investigators are running tests to see if drinking played a role in the crash.
Police have not released the names of those involved.
