Stabbing Suspect Caught on Tape at Food City

Northwest Knoxville (WVLT) - Knoxville Police are investigating a rather strange stabbing outside a grocery store.

Officers say they arrived at the Food City on Western Avenue shortly before 4 this morning and found a man lying on the ground bleeding from his chest.

That man, David Olinger, 33, says he was working to change the sign outside the Food City, when a blue minivan stopped and a black man exited it.

Olinger says the van was possibly a Ford Aerostar.

Olinger says the man asked where the nearest pay phone was and took off on foot.

When he returned, Olingersays the man ran toward him, then tackled him.

A short struggle ensued and Olinger suffered two stab wounds to the chest.

He was taken to UT Medical Center where he's listed in critical but stable condition.

No word on any possible suspects at this hour.
