Halls Students Remember Bert Weaver

Knoxville (WVLT) It was a sad return this morning to Halls Middle School.

Especially for seventh graders and those who knew Bert Weaver.

The vibrant 13-year old, died Saturday afternoon as a result of being hit by a vehicle while crossing East Emory Road on his way to Halls' Friday night football game.

Volunteer TV's Jim Freeman was on hand as students arrived this morning

Losing a best friend is never easy, especially when you're on the doorstep to your teenage years.

The traffic, students heading to their first class, memos posted on the school sign; it almost seemed like a typical day at halls middle.

A look at this corner quickly clues you in that it's not.

Just before the morning bell, another memorial was hung on the fence near where Bert was struck.

Some of his closest friends are doing their best to cope with the sudden loss of the much loved youngster who wore jersey number nine for the football team.

"Everybody knew him in the school, and it's going to be really hard for everybody especially Phillip," says Caytee Tackett, a friend of Bert's.

"Everytime that somebody said anything about me or him in the hallway, we defended each other, and it's going to be hard to go back to school and being able to face everything without him," said Phillip Durham.

Family and friends will gather at the Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel Thursday from five until eight to pay their respects to Bert Weaver.

Services follow at eight.

Interment will be Friday at 11 am at the Anderson-Gouffon Cemetery on Tazewell Pike.

Bert's mom, Donna, tells us that Bert will be laid to rest next to a beautiful tree.

Bert was my bestfriend i ever had.he always knew what to say when i was upset.i will never forget those long nights staying on the phone with him until like three in the morning.then having to go to skol.and i will never forget how much he has helped me with all those problems i was facing in my life.i remember the firt time i ever went to his house,it was funny.adam was dressed as harry potter, and went to go find a stick that looked like a wand.and we kicked the soccer ball.and i hit him with it.haha.also when we were going to the swingset to see adam and isaiah, and adam got the bright idea that he would climb it.and he fell between the bar at the top!and bert had to get frozen pees for his little brother.isaiah was shy at first, but then he got ust to me and talked :) and for those who said that about donna need to think of what they say before they post it.she is a very strong woman, and she had to be strong for her other two children, she just kept in mind, berts in heaven now:) ily!

we loved bert so much and we still do. everyone does! sometimes life just doesnt seem fair. but the way my grandfather described it to me was that the world is like a garden and we are all roses. when god goes to pick a rose he wants to take the most beautiful rose in the garden. i know thats why he chose bert. he was beautful inside and out! i know he's in a better place but its still hard that he's gone. i love you bert!

Bert was one of the most kindhearted people I have ever met. Going back to school is really hard after losing someone. Especially him. He was so sweet and funny. He gave me hugs every day and cheered me up. It's sad to think that I'll never be able to run up to him and scream "AHH bert i love you!" and him be all like "Hey." And smile. I can't wait to see him up in heaven. He will always be in my heart, and i will never ever forget him. Bert...i love you man. I really miss you.

Bert, I only talked to you once but I remeber I was in one of those moods where I was like I'm gonna say hey to everyone and talk to people...you were walking down the music hallway and I was standing there and I was like hey...I'm Emily and the kid you were walking with kind of looked like me like I was weird but then you were like Hey...Im Bert and was really nice about it....you were the only one who was nice. I have some friends on the football teamand they have all told me of what a big heart you had and how you never gave up no matter what...and I respect that. You were a great guy and you will be missed so much...We love you Bert!
