KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Federal prosecutors say they've dealt a major blow to the infamous Outlaws Motorcycle Gang. This after the arrest of its regional president, right here in Knoxville.
55-year-old Mark Lester, known as "Ivan" in the underground biker world, stands accused of running the Knoxville chapter of the Outlaws.
Lester, and 26 other high ranking Outlaws members, including the national president, were indicted by a federal grand jury in Virgina.
"Everybody around here knows that they're the Outlaws, but we didn't know that they were that involved," said neighbor Elaine Howerton. Howerton was the only neighbor we found not afraid to talk about Lester.
"You'll see cars and motorcycles lined up, up through there and stuff, and they just have their own parties," said Howerton. Ever had any run-ins with them? "No."
Charges against Lester and others include attempted murder, assault, narcotics distribution and regular use of firearms.
Lester's arrest is an effort to "...dismantle a gang whose entire environment revolves around violence," said the U. S. Attorney's Office.
Outside the Outlaws' compound in North Knoxville we found one biker who refused comment.
"Everybody pretty much minds their own business. They don't bother us and we don't bother them. It's just one of those things, you just don't get involved," said Howerton.
