One thing that I haven't seen mentioned in any comments or the above headlines is that David Hicks was drunk. I know this information because I know the victim and the victims family.

The wreck was between Cate Road and Washington Heights. It involved two vehicles. A man driving at a high rate of speed was killed. The other vehicle, was driven by a woman accompanied by her two children. They survived the head-on collision. This is a bad area for wrecks. This is the worse I've seen yet. The speed limit is only 40 but folks fly up and down the Emory Road doing 50 or more. It was estimated that the man was traveling at 90 . He was killed on impact. With this many wrecks happening in this one area, you would think something could be done. Why aren't there warning signs to slow down? Why haven't there been speed traps? Something needs to be done before more lives are lost on this stretch of Emory Road.

Four friends and I were sitting on my deck after dinner when heard the crash from the impact. We immediately called 911, and went to the scene. There were 2 children on the scene, the 12 or 13 year old boy had pulled his 7 or 8 year old sister out of the suv, but the mom was trapped and they were trying to comfort her. We had a friend that was a first responder who sat and held the mom's hand until help arrived. Prayers for the mom would be much appreciated. The boy in the firebird passed away about 3 minutes after impact. The vehicle was totally destroyed, instead of a firebird, it was no larger than a mini coupe. The SUV was in the front yard of a doctor, and he was with the boy at the time. We have found out his name was David Hicks. This was a very tragic scene, but unfortunately we have frequent accidents due to speeding and drunk driving on West Emory Rd. So everyone please slow down! I really don't want to have to see someone die on my street again!
