New Charges in Blount Standoff

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Blount County authorities have upgraded charges against a Maryville man in a hostage incident September 18th.

Anthony Todd Ghormley is now charged with attempted first-degree murder.

He had initially been arrested on several charges that included domestic violence.

Karen Vandyke Ghormley and Candy Bussey were able to escape from a house where Ghormley held them, but suffered head injuries, saying Anthony Ghormley beat them with a baseball bat.

Anthony Ghormley held police at bay for nearly eight hours, holding hostage Karen Ghormley's 74-year-old grandmother Gaynell Head.

Ghormley is held in lieu of $1.6 million bond.
