A LOCAL 8 WEATHER ALERT is in effect into Wednesday due repeated rainfall. A Flood Watch is in effect for our area until 7 AM Wednesday. Where there are more pauses in the rain, totals will be closer to 2 inches but some will receive at least 4 inches of rainfall total. Creeks and streams run high and areas with poor runoff could face flooding problems. Busy commute hours could face more slowdowns, with fog and standing water on roads as well.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Mixed economic news helped drive gas prices down for the eighth week in a row, according to new numbers from AAA. Nationwide, prices fell over 8 cents since last week and are down 31 cents year to year.
Around east Tennessee, gas prices were only down slightly across the board, but still remain well under the national average. In Knoxville, prices ticked down around one cent to $3.22, while folks across the river in Maryville saw the low prices in the area at just under $3.14.
AAA said crude oil prices jumped last week following reports that U.S. jobless claims rose less than expected. But that optimism was tempered later in the week with news that the GDP didn't grow as much as predicted. Still, though, crude oil prices finished nearly five dollars higher than the week before.
