KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)- It started out with an alert from U.T.- a bear was spotted on campus near White Avenue and Volunteer Boulevard around 11:30 Saturday night.
TWRA says they heard students had chased the bear...and it eventually made it's way up a tree in front of the Panhellenic building.
University and TWRA officers surrounded the bear...keeping a watchful eye as it climbed up and down the tree...but never coming too close to making it's way down.
But after five tranquiler darts over several hours...the bear finally became sleepy...falling out of the tree around 1:30 Sunday morning.
The bear was loaded up into a truck and will probably be relocated to the Cherokee National Forest.
The bear is estimated to be about two or three years old and weighs over one hundred pounds.
TWRA says they've dealt with several bears in the Knoxville area in the past week.
Students we talked to say they were stunned. A large group watched as officers worked to get the bear down.
