Hundreds of people gathered at Dollywood's Splash Country to learn how to swim and also join the world in setting a record for swim lessons.
Dollywood's Splash Country along with East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, Kohl’s, Knoxville Pediatric Associates and Safe Kids of the Greater Knox Area, got together to put on a safety swim day for kids.
360 people showed up for the world's largest swim lesson at 11am. More than 500 official WLSL Host Locations around the globe representing 24 countries on five continents and 46 states in the US!
A spokesperson with East Tennessee Children's Hospital says the day is important for children of all ages. They say each summer swimming related accidents are one of the main reasons children go to the hospital.
Drowning is the leading cause of injury related death for children ages 1-5.
