Accident leads to one death inside national park

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Rangers inside Great Smoky Mountains National park say a two car accident lead to one fatality on Saturday evening.
Preliminary investigation shows that Joseph Madden, 34, of Pittman Center, TN, may have been attempting to cross the Northbound Spur from Westgate when a vehicle driven by Nicholas Swaggerty, 19, of Kodak, TN, collided with his pickup. Madden was transported to Leconte Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Three other people taken to the hospital have been released.
Park Rangers are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
