Accidental shooting injures man in West Knox County

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT)-- A man was injured in the leg after an accidental shooting at a West Knox County apartment complex Sunday afternoon.

The incident happened around 2:00 p.m. at The Reserve at Westland.

According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, Robert Gibson, 19, was sitting on the couch handling a gun when it went off and hit Thomas Montgomery, 18 on the leg.

Montgomery used a neighbor's phone to call his parents. He was then transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities said Gibson and a witness left after the incident and later returned to the scene.

No charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing.
