ALCOA, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Alcoa Police Chief Ken Burge passed away at his home Sunday.
Chief Burge joined the Alcoa Police Department in September 2004 and has served the community as the police chief since that time. Chief Burge had a police career that totaled over 39 years.
Alcoa City Manager Mark Johnson said, “It is a very sad time for the department and for the City. Ken was a true leader who dedicated his life to public safety and serving others.”
Chief Burge was a lifetime member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, previously served on the board for Blount County 911, and also the 5th Judicial District Drug Task force.
Chief Burge resided in Alcoa with his wife, Bettiann. He is also survived by his son, Ken K. Burge, of Littleton, CO; daughter, Dr. Ginger Burge, of Indianapolis, IN.; and grandson, K.C. Burge of Springfield, TN.
The family will be receiving friends from 4pm – 7pm on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Smiths Funeral Home in Maryville, TN.
Service to immediately follow beginning at 7pm. The burial is to be held in Fairview Heights, Illinois.
