Downtown Knoxville, TENN (WVLT) -- The stork dropped in at 12:00:10 a.m., making Yusuf Quraishi Knoxville's Baby New Year!
Parvez and Saleha Quraishi first went to Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center Downtown on New Year's morning because Saleha thought she was ready to give birth. But, she wasn't. They returned last night and that's when they welcomed their second son into the world.
He was actually due December 27, 2012. But his dad thinks he was waiting for the party. You know, the countdown, when the ball drops in New York City? Well, he arrived seconds later.
Yusuf is a long fella: 20 and a half inches long and weighs 6 pounds 11 ounces. He is the Qurashi's second child, and second son.
Hospital staff say mom and baby are doing great.
The nurses in Women's Services at FSRMCD gave the family a basket filled with goodies, homemade items like a blanket and bonnets, as well as formula and things for mom.
They prepare a basket every year for the first baby of the new year and the family.
