ATHENS, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Couldn't get enough enough of the fireworks on the Fourth of July?
Well, the City of Athens has you covered. City officials announced on Friday that they have rescheduled their Independence Day festivities for Saturday, September 1, at 8:30 p.m. at the Athens Regional Park.
“I really appreciate everyone understanding the reason that we postponed our show,” said Austin Fesmire, Director of Parks and Recreation. “As we learned, the risk of fire became a reality for us on two occasions."
Fesmire pointed out that with a UT game on Friday and Boomsday on Sunday, their celebration would slot in nicely between those two events.
"I anticipate a tremendous crowd since we are the only event that evening,” he said.
The original Fourth of July celebration had been postponed because of dry conditions and fires.
