Bearden businesses fight to keep Ben Atchley Street open

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Several Bearden businesses have banded together to appeal to city council members to keep Ben Atchley Street open between Kingston Pike and Homberg Drive. On Monday, the met with the media to make their case ahead of Tuesday vote by the city council.

The Knoxville-Knox County Metropolitan Planning Commission already voted to keep the road open, but the developer who wants to close it has asked the city council to override their decision.

A spokesperson for the stores argued if Ben Atchley Street were closed customers wouldn't be able to reach their shops easily, hurting their business.
