PINEVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- The Bell County clerk and three of her deputies have entered not guilty pleas in connection with people not receiving tax refunds they were owed.
Clerk Rebecca Blevins and deputy clerks Flora Ferrell, Kayla Carnes and Connie Watkins all entered pleas Thursday in Bell District Court.
Blevins, Ferrell and Carnes are accused of keeping approximately $12,200 in refunds, while Watkins is accused of assisting in the scheme.
The attorney for Blevins argued during the hearing that she should be allowed to return to her duties as clerk since she was elected to the position. The four women were barred from the courthouse as a condition of their release from jail.
The judge agreed to allow Blevins back, but the others are still barred.
