Autopsy reveals no foul play in death of Blount County woman

BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong said preliminary results of the autopsy on the 45-year-old Maryville woman who died Wednesday revealed no foul play as the cause of death.

The woman is identified as Carol Ann Dunlap-Stafford, 45, of Eagleton Road, Maryville. Her husband James Howard Stafford, 46, was released from custody a short time ago.

Wednesday afternoon, deputies and detectives with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Stafford’s residence on Eagleton Road to the call of a sick person. When deputies arrived, they found Carol Dunlap-Stafford deceased inside the apartment. James Stafford was taken into custody for investigation pending the outcome of the autopsy.

An autopsy was performed on Carol Dunlap-Stafford this morning at the University of Tennessee Forensics Center.

The Blount County Sheriff's Office is conducting a death investigation on a 45-year-old Maryville woman.

Deputies showed up at a home on Eagleton Road Wednesday afternoon to the call of a sick person. That's when they found the woman dead inside an apartment.

The woman’s husband, 46, is in custody for investigation at the Blount County Detention Facility pending the outcome of the autopsy.

The University of Tennessee Forensics Center will perform an autopsy Thursday.
