According to the Knoxville Police Department, officers responded to a burglary and assault call on Whittle Springs Road at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
The victim arrived home and interrupted the burglary in progress. The suspect beat the 63-year-old and locked him in a closet. He then barricaded the closet door, preventing the victim from escaping.
The suspect then fled on foot. The victim was found a few minutes later by his daughter with injuries on his head and body, but refused medical treatment.
KPD described the suspect as a white male about 45 or 50 years of age who smells bad. He was last seen wearing a camouflage army field jacket. Police think he may be homeless.
Anyone that may have seen or can identify this suspect in the area of Whittle Springs and Boright should call police on the crime and drug hotline at 215-7212. Callers can remain anonymous.
