KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The man who owns the car found submerged in west Knox Co. early Monday morning claims the vehicle was taken from his driveway without his permission, according to the Knox Co. Sheriff's Office.
Mark Townes said the car disappeared sometime late Sunday night or early Monday morning. It was discovered underwater at Carl Cowen Park, off Northshore Drive, around 2:00 a.m. A witness reportedly saw the car roll into the water from across the park dock.
Rural Metro rescue divers responded and discovered the vehicle with no one inside. Dive teams attached a cable to the car and pulled it onto a wrecker.
The investigation is still ongoing.
