Family safe, cats rescued from house fire in South Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee - Knoxville Fire Department responded to a house fire early Thursday morning in South Knoxville.

The fire started around 2 a.m. at a home in the 500 block of Woodlawn Pike. Once crews arrived, they were able to put the fire out quickly.

The family living in the house did make it out safely, while firefighters had to rescue their two cats. One cat had to be resuscitated.

Crews say the fire was likely electrical, starting somewhere in the ceiling area, between the basement and first level of the home.
