WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss sank a hole-in-one when he and a couple of fellow senators played golf with President Barack Obama.
The ace shot Monday on the par-three 11th hole helped lead the Georgia senator and GOP teammate Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee to victory over the Democratic duo of Obama and Colorado Sen. Mark Udall. The outing was to strengthen ties between the president and Congress.
The round came as the White House and Democrats are working to secure support for an immigration overhaul -- especially from Republicans. They're hoping that a strong bipartisan showing in the Senate will strengthen the bill's prospects for passing the Republican-controlled House.
Obama has reached out to lawmakers from both parties in hopes of laying the ground for compromise on fiscal issues.
