KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- The Christian and Newsom families walked out of the courtroom Tuesday evening with a little more faith in the justice system.
Vanessa Coleman was found guilty on several counts of the facilitation to commit the first degree murder of Channon Christian.
"They were two good kids not doing anything wrong. They deserve justice and unfortunately, our justice system doesn't work properly. But today marked one for the good guys," Deena Christian said.
"I think they did not convict her on the only thing that she could not have physically been responsible for. That's rape by penetration," Gary Christian added.
Both families said the first trial was tough, and this time wasn't any easier.
"It feels good to finally get the verdict after waiting for it a long time. I think she deserves it," Mary Newsom said.
"We're glad that she was charged with what she was. Let's hope she stays locked up for a long time," Hugh Newsom said.
But they made it through thanks to the outpouring of support from family and friends and strangers from all over the world.
"I went home the other night and I was pretty angry. I walked in and sat down at my computer and pulled Facebook up. I had 800 something requests. When you see that many people tell you they're just praying for you. It means something," Gary Christian said.
It's been a heck of a fight for the families, but they still have a long way to go.
"These people deserve a whole lot more than they're getting including Davidson. I don't know how you kill him twice. I think he needs to die quick. His germs may get out," Gary said.
The Christians told Local 8 News they hope the other three men are not granted new trials.
