Christmas shopping spree for needy kids

Updated: Sun 2:46 PM, Dec 09, 2012

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- 190 kids were granted their Christmas wishes today thanks to folks at Weigels Stores.

They got a chance to go shopping for whatever toys they could get with $150, all thanks to donations.

Dozens of volunteers helped the kids pick out that perfect gift while looking through the aisles of the K-Mart on North Broadway.

This was the 15th "Weigels Family Christmas," in which the convenience store gives the Salvation Army a hand to help local kids.

Seeing the joy on the kid's faces is a moving experience for CEO Bill Weigel.

"For us it's a great day. For them, it might be the chance of a lifetime. We hope it's a day they never forget," said Weigel.

The families of local veterans are also receiving gifts. Twelve families are receiving a 15 hundred dollar shopping spree.
