WASHINGTON (WVLT) -- Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) was named the top Republican on the Senate's Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday.
As the "ranking" member of the committee, Corker is charged with representing Republican interests on the powerful committee, his office explained.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the Foreign Relations Committee on behalf of the minority, and as we enter this new Congress, it is my goal to see the committee play a more relevant role in international relations and be a place where we look at our national interests in the context of the longer view,” said Corker.
The Senator's office noted he has served on the Foreign Relations Committee since joining the Senate in 2007, visiting 48 different countries in the process.
On Wednesday, in one of her final acts as Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton will testify before the committee about the terrorist attack in Benghazi that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans on Sept. 11, 2012.
On Thursday, it begins the nomination hearing for Clinton's potential successor, Sen. John Kerry (D-MA).
