KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Dozens gathered at Menchies in Bearden Sunday to raise money for Kim Louis, a mother battling breast cancer.
The mother of 4-year-old triplets was diagnosed with invasive mammary carcinoma last March after finding a lump the summer before. Kim has undergone two surgeries and is now undergoing chemo.
"Some days it's hard. I feel like I'm not being enough of a mom to them right now, and that's hard," said Louis.
After she left work to focus on recovery, her coworkers donated their holidays to help keep her paid.
"We as an office and as her friends wanted to do something to where she could focus on recovering from breast cancer, going through the chemo and not focus on how she was going to have to meet, to pay her bills and how she was going to have to not work. We wanted her to save her energy for her family," said Lindsey Hammill, Kim's coworker.
Louis is looking forward to next summer, when she hopes she and her family can have a normal holiday.
"My wheels are spinning already about how to pay it forward later. You know, right now my plate's a little full dealing with this, but I hope to do something for other families," said Louis.
Menchie's donated 10 percent of all sales in several locations Sunday to the Louis family. It will continue to contribute to her medical treatment throughout the month of August by donating all net proceeds from catering orders.
A bank account has also been set up in the family's name at SmartBank on Montvue Center Way. Anyone interested in donating can mail or deposit checks there.
