RUTLEDGE, Tenn. (AP) -- Police in East Tennessee say a man who was caught stealing an all-terrain vehicle crashed while fleeing officers and was killed.
Grainger County officials told The Knoxville News Sentinel, 51-year-old Kyle "Eddie" Brooks of Maryville died in August when his truck crashed on Highway 131.
Officers said the weight of the ATV, combined with the curvy road and high speed were factors in the crash.
A male passenger in Brooks' truck was taken to University of Tennessee Hospital in critical condition. His name wasn't immediately released.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article from the AP said Brooks died last Sunday. It has since been revised to place his death in August.
