Modjeska Canyon, Calif. (CBS/WVLT)-- The roomate of a missing Orange County student and Army Veteran, whose body was found in the wilderness, was arrested Friday in connection to her death.
Former Knoxville resident Kwang Joy, 54, is suspected of killing Maribel Ramos, 36.
Ramos was last seen on surveillance video paying her rent check just before 9 p.m. May 2.
Ramos’ body was found Thursday in brush off Santiago Canyon Road on the hillside of Modjeska Canyon. The remains were so badly deteriorated, law enforcement officials were unable to determine whether it was a man or woman.
“Her case has therefore been reclassified from a missing person’s case to a homicide investigation," Lt. Dave Hill of the Orange Police Department said.
Ramos, who served two tours of duty in Iraq, was scheduled to graduate at the end of May with a criminal justice degree from Cal State Fullerton. .
Joy lived in Knoxville, Tenn. prior to moving to Los Angeles.
According to a Knoxville Police report, Joy threatened to kill his sister who lives in Knoxville back in January.
