Crimetracker: Corrections officer accused of stealing from inmates

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Knox County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a corrections officer for stealing jewelry from inmate property bags at the Knox County Detention Facility.

Officers say 19-year old Michael Sweat stole jewelry from the property bags of inmates on September 20 and 21 and then pawned the jewelry at Kell’s Gold Exchange on Kingston Pike for $1,130.

Sweat was hired last November and was considered on probation until his first year anniversary.

All items taken were recovered from Kell’s and will be returned to their owners.
