Crimetracker: Indiana fugitives caught after chase that injured two kids

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Two Indiana fugitives were captured at a Knoxville motel Monday night, but not until after two young children and another person were injured during a car chase earlier that day, according to the Knoxville Police Dept.

Jacob Beyers and Mallory Ann Potts, a.k.a. Mallory Ann Johnson, were both arrested around 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Motel 6 on Merchants Center Blvd. They both had outstanding robbery warrants in Spencer Co., Indiana. The U.S. Marshall's Service Smoky Mountain Fugitive Task Force joined the KPD in making the arrest.

After he was arrested, Beyers reportedly admitted to officers that he was involved in the chase and car crash earlier that day. He's also been charged with evading arrest, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a accident, and other traffic charges.

Police say an officer stopped Beyers, who was driving a white Toyota Camry, near Beaumont and Sunrise shortly before 5:00 p.m. for violating the State Registration Law. When the officer noted that the man pictured on the drivers license didn't look like Beyers, the suspect took off. In the course of the pursuit, Beyers allegedly blew through a stop sign and red light and, in each instance, hit another vehicle.

In the first wreck, a seven year-old child had to be taken to Children's Hospital, while in the second crash, both a 5 year-old and the driver were taken to the ambulance.

Police finally found the car, but by that time the driver had fled on foot.
