Crimetracker: Pair charged in downtown Knoxville shooting

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Two people are facing gun-related charges after a shootout near downtown Knoxville which ended in a crash. It happened on the 300 block of South Hall of Fame Drive around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to Knoxville Police, there was an accident involving a Nissan Sentra in the parking lot of Vista Apartments. There were two people in the car when police arrived, but two other male passengers ran from the scene after the crash.

It appears one of the passengers in the Nissan exchanged gunfire with someone outside of the car. The driver, who has been identified as 18 year-old Courney Gass, crashed when trying to leave the scene, according to authorities.

Officers caught the two armed men, who have been identified as 21 year-old Edward Jones and an unidentified 17 year-old, on Summit Hill near Town View Dr.

The suspects were transported to UT Hospital for minor injuries from the traffic crash. A 17 year-old female passenger, who stayed at the crash, was transported to UT Hospital for a very serious injury to her ankle.

The investigation is ongoing. Police said everyone in the Sentra at the time as well as witnesses are being "less than cooperative."
