Crimetracker: Knox Co. businessman charged with tax evasion

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A Knox County businessman has been indicted on tax evasion charges after an investigation by the Tennessee Department of Revenue.

Ali Khalil, 43, surrendered to agents Friday at the Knox County Detention Center. His bond was set at $8,000.

The indictment says Khalil tried to evade $13,416.64 in sales tax due to the state for Andy’s Market. The market was on Magnolia Avenue from December 2011 - June 2012.

If convicted, Khalil faces up to two years in state prison. He could also be fined.
