Crimetracker: Maryville man killed in shootout with police identified

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A 27 year-old man was killed in an overnight shootout with officers in Maryville early Thursday morning, according to the Maryville Police Dept.

Authorities first received calls about a possible shooting shortly after 2:30 a.m., including one from person who claimed he was shot several times.

Officers found Theodore Jones IV with a gun in his hand in the 1800 block of Broadway Ave. They said Jones then broke into a vacant building before coming back out and shooting at the officers.

Officers returned fire, killing him. They have both been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. A Blount County Sheriff's Deputy was also involved in the shooting.
