KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Two men are behind bars after an evening chase through the Old City during which an officer fired at one of the suspects. According to the Knoxville Police Dept., Jerrell Davis, 20, faces charges of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, and Simple Possession; while Calvin Rader, 21, was charged with Evading as well as three outstanding warrants.
Officers spotted the pair at a convenience store on Summitt Hill Dr. shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Monday and they both took off on foot toward the Old City, police said. During the chase, Rader reportedly turned and raised his gun at a pursuing officer. The officer responded by firing a single shot, missing Rader.
Rader continued to run until he saw another officer closing in on him, at which point he tried tossing his gun in a gravel lot near Willow Ave. and Patton Street and hiding under a box trailer. Officers found him and took him into custody without further incident, reportedly finding, not only the gun, but 10.6 grams of marijuana as well.
Davis was found at a storage shed off Georgia Ave. a short time later.
