SOMERSET, Ky. (WVLT) -- An apparent road rage incident sent a semi driver to the hospital Thursday night after he was shot several times, according to the Pulaski (KY) Co. Sheriff's Office. The victim, 54 year-old Luster L. Rose, was flown via helicopter to UK Hospital with what authorities described as life threatening injuries.

The suspected shooter, 23 year-old Troy McAninch, was arrested at the scene of the shooting without incident, having already set down his gun by the time police arrived. The Standford, Ky., man was charged with 1st degree assault.

The shooting, which occurred at the intersection of Highway 914 and Highway 1247, south of Somerset, shut down the highway for approximately two hours while investigators worked the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates Rose was heading west on Highway 914 when McAninch's purple Nissan pickup pulled out in front of his semi at the Jordans Way intersection. Officials said McAninch's wife Samantha was driving.

Both Samantha and Troy McAninch told investigators that's when Rose began tailgating them in his semi. They said Rose's driving infuriated Troy, who decided to confront him.

When both of them finally stopped at the intersection of Highways 914 and 1247, McAninch got out of his truck and went over to the passenger side of the semi and began yelling obscenities at Rose.

Rose then reportedly grabbed a wooden club and and got out to confront McAninch. Investigators say the two began fighting and as the situation escalated McAninch pulled out a handgun and shot at Rose four times.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing and detectives are asking anyone with information about the events leading up to the shooting to call the Pulaski Co. Sheriff's Office at 606-678-5145.
